VIDEONYSTAGMOGRAPHY (VNG) AND CALORIC TESTING
VNG tests are designed to test your balance function and are requested primarily by Neurologists and Ear, Nose and Throat specialists.
VNG allows us to evaluate vestibular and brain functions by monitoring eye movements. During VNG, the client wears goggles that are designed to record eye movements. Eye movement analysis can give important information about the workings of an individual’s balance system.
A common part of VNG is called caloric testing. This test involves slight changes in the temperature of a client’s ear canal, one ear at a time. The change in temperature can elicit eye movements by the vestibular-ocular reflex.
Some clients are nervous about the dizziness that can occur during this test, but this is brief, controlled and bearable. Our clinicians are experienced in working with you during all tests to ensure you remain comfortable while they obtain important information about your balance system.
If you are concerned about the test or any other aspect of your balance function, please do not hesitate to contact us.
